BEEN TAKING A LITTLE BREAK

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

since the special election for State Senate District 16.  I will not be able to tape a new MCAM show this week, so last week’s show, which has my analysis of the election will re-run.

SOME THOUGHTS ON SCOTT BROWN

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Re John Stephen:  Of course 10 months is a lifetime politically speaking, and John Lynch is no Martha Coakley, but there may never be a better opportunity to run for Governor, and get elected, as now.  Should be thinking really hard about it.

Re John Lynch:  Hoping someone will tell him that the last year has all been a bad dream.

Re Paul Hodes:  Better make that call to Billy Shaheen about getting your old job back; you are not long for this political world.

Re Kelly Ayotte:  Timing is everything, and it looks like her timing is impeccable.

Re Fran Guinta:  See re Kelly Ayotte.

Re Carol Porter:  Who knows what goes on in the head of an uber moon-bat.

Re Charlie Bass:  Gotta be really happy that Bob Guida is in the race to pull votes away from Jennifer Horn.  Otherwise, the voters’ mood for a house-cleaning and fresh faces would make the primary a lot more competitive for the old war-horse.

Re Jennifer Horn:  Gotta be hoping that conservative voters don’t do what they always seem to do, which is to split their votes and let the moderate win.

Re John Kacavas:  Telling himself, over and over again, it’s a long time to 2012, and Obama can turn it around, just like Clinton did, so I can run for Governor.

Re Ray Buckley:  See John Lynch.

Re John Sununu, the senior:  If I am dreaming, please don’t wake me up.

Re Dave Boutin:  Trying to do his best Scott Brown impersonation.

Re Jeff Goley:  Probably heavily soiled his pants around 9 pm last night.

BOUTIN versus PFAFF — WHO BETTER TO TAKE THE FIGHT TO GOLEY

Monday, December 28th, 2009

One thing that has me worried about a Terry Pfaff candidacy is how aggressively he would go after fellow firefighter Jeff Goley.  More particularly, would Terry take the gloves off or would Goley’s status as a fellow firefighter inoculate him from the tough questions about his background and experience that need to be asked

The problem is that while Terry would be fighting by the Marquis of Queensbury rules, Ray Buckley who will be running the Goley campaign will show no such compunction going after the Republican nominee.  Goley, like all the Dems do, will simply say — it was Ray; you know how he is.  Which is such bullmanure.

I have to say advantage Boutin on this one.

TERRY’S CAMPAIGN STUNT ACTUALLY RAISES AN IMPORTANT QUESTION

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Yesterday’s Fahey column –yes, that would be the soon to be unembargoed Manchester Union Leader writer Tom Fahey– reports that State Senate candidate Terry Pfaff has called upon fellow candidates  Jeff Goley and David Boutin to resign their seats in the House, so that a special election to fill their seats can be held.

Pfaff’s silly suggestion actually raises a serious point.  Last I knew Pfaff was employed as a firefighter in Manchester.  Will he resign his position as a firefighter or at least recuse himself from all votes that could effect his compensation, if elected?  For example, arguably the biggest threat to the New Hampshire Advantage is the State Retirement, which is a defined benefit, rather than a defined contribution, type of pension.  Whose interest would Pfaff put first, in voting on the State Retirement, the taxpayer or his fellow firefighters?  And should a member of a government union even be voting on such legislation, when his own paycheck would be affected?

We already know that Jeff Goley does not see any ethical dilemma in voting on legislation involving government unions (that is when he does show up — I understand he  has the worst or one of the worst attendance rates of all Manchester reps).  Indeed, he is the Chairman of a House Committee that oversees labor law issues.

So how about it, Terry Pfaff, will you immediately resign your position as a firefighter (assuming, of course, you still hold that position), and if not, why not?
